A Blocking Nightmare..

I made a popcorn doily out of Popcorn Stitch Doilies by Josie Rabier (American School of Needlework 2001). I wasn't liking the way it was working but I kept on working that thread hoping the doily would eventually start lying flat. By the end I wanted to just put it aside, probably would never finish it if I did. I muddled through and finished it about 1:00 am, and promptly threw it on top of the other doiies to be blocked. I took a look at it this morning..thought you might want pics of the blocking nightmare. I just hope you can see the mess I was working with. I pull out my blocking boards (made out of the sheets of stuff they insulate houses with, covered with contact paper..for those of you who asked what I blocked on). I soaked this doily and went to work..an hour later..TA DAH!!! To get to this result..I pulled out my largest mixing bowl and found what I hoped was a good place to start and began to make a round doily I couldn't make it round without the bowl. The doily became every shape except round. What a mess..Anyway I think I got it..check the pics out..oh and I think this doily will be really stiffly starched..there should be a blocking warning on this one..

Hi Vikki, I saw your comment in my email and came on over to your blog. Oh my, your skill puts me to shame. You do such beautiful intricate work. I read your 10 reasons why you like to crochet. It is relaxing and it gives something beautiful for time passed doesn't it? Like you, I love thread crochet the best and believe it is a work of art to make something so pretty from thread. I am so glad you left a comment. I don't have a pattern for those little dress potholders. I do have the one vintage one and from looking at it and help from a friend who has a pattern for a different style, I made a pretty good copy of the vintage one. I just love crocheting them and think they are so cute. They are my favorite vintage potholder and the granny square roses are my second favorite. I have made some of those also. Looking forward to knowing you thru your blog. We aren't too far apart, I live in Bloomington. Have a wonderful evening! Happy crocheting!

Working the pattern is only half the job. Another hour to block it - my goodness. It certainly looks beautiful when finished.

Hello! I just wanted to comment on your doily, it looks lovely! I saw your link on another blog I follow.
I've notcied that Josie Rabier's designs tend to be too full for my tastes, thus making them so hard to stretch and block. You've done an excellent job on yours.

I have worked on doilies like that. You can tell as you're working on something if it's really going to lie flat or not. However, your finished piece was totally worth it! It is just gorgeous! I came over from a link to The Crochet Way and am so happy to have found your blog! I love to make doilies, too, and it's fun to see your beautiful creations!

Blessings - Julie
