My Grandma's gifts

I wasn't going to post this morning, as I really didn't have anything to say..but Faith at http://crochetbythesea has a wonderful post and linky going about some of our grandma's treasures.
I don't think my grandma treasured this towel..but I do.  It is on my wall in a shadow box.  My grandma I am sure never thought that one day one of her grandaughters will treasure one of her dishtowels..I miss my grandma, and often wish her and my grandpa could have met my husband..They would have loved him...I think how great it could have been if we could have played cards..my husband and grandpa would have had fun I think..My husband even has the same name as my grandpa...
This doily was made by my Great Grandma Bollie,  her real name was Annabelle..Isn't that a wonderful name?  Those are her scissors in the left hand corner...My mom was hesitant to give them to me..Bollie was my mom's best friend I think..Mom still uses Bollie's crochet hook to this day.  Bollie is the lady who sat down with me in the closet and taught me how to make my first chain...Mom told me that Bollie didn't have alot of money so she would save string and get left over balls of thread from my Aunt Agnes and use those.  I don't have any of Agnes' creations.  I wish I did so she could be on my wall.   What great gifts my mom, my grandma, and my great-grandma have given me..because of these women, I am never bored..I have a hobby I really enjoy, and have learned to live life one single crochet stitch at a time...May you find joy in all that you do today my friends.

Things from the past are a treasure, especially if they can be connected with a family member. Neither of my grandmothers crocheted, but my mother in law did....way up into her 80s. I have several pieces that she made and they are special.

I learnt crocheting from my grandmother when I was 10 years old. But in today's age, Internet has become grandma for all...in other words, internet has brought knowledge of many grandmas together to share :) I learn a lot seeing works of talented crocheters like you!:)

Vikki, these are lovely treasure, and memories of the heart. Isn't wonderful that blogging creates in all of us to inspire and share. thank you for sharing yours with us. I never knew any of my grandparents they died before I was born, I feel I missed out on alot of things.

So lovely.

It's always nice to have things from our loved ones....

What a true gift your Great GrandMother gave to you the day she taught you to crochet. I love the name Annabelle...hmmm might pop up in one of my future stories...and yes, I will make sure she crochets. It touched my heart when you said she did not have a lot of money and saved all the thread she could get...just know that if I lived back then, I would have gladly given her half my stash so she could have crocheted to her hearts content. :)

Blessings always dear friend. :)

Sorry I haven't visited in a while. I love Grandma's treasures. I wish I had gotten more of my grandma's things but I was able to get her crochet hooks and some of her tatting. My Grandpa would have loved my husband also. My son is named after my grandpa. Love your trees. Have a great Christmas!
